In order to be successful one must first find their purpose in life. For me, my purpose came from my family. Growing up in the small town of Dasol, Pangasinan I saw my parents struggle to make ends meet and support their 11 children. My father was a drunk womanizer which meant even more responsibility fell to my mother. So, I knew I had to do something. Although I did not have any special talents I had the determination to help my family. This determination led me to go abroad and work to support my family. Helping my family and then seeing them achieve great projects.
I was assigned a purpose due to the circumstances of my childhood. Not everyone is like that. If you are lucky to be born into a family where you were given the opportunity to go to school and choose a life for yourself it is harder to find your place in the world because your mission isn’t chosen for you. So, how do you find your purpose?
a. What are my Strengths and Weaknesses?
So, when you are answering this question you need to look at yourself as objective as possible. For me, my strengths are my ability to inspire those around me, my work ethic in being able to work for 16-18 hours a day, and my excellent sales skills. My weaknesses are my organizational skills and my bad habit of taking on all of the work when something isn’t done to my expectations which ends up in me getting burnt out.
b. What do I care about?
The next step is to figure out what are the things you want to help solve. The first thing to help solve is the immediate needs of those around you. Does your family have low financial stability? Is someone in bad shape health-wise? Once you are stable enough you can then put your focus onto helping your community/country/planet. Some examples of things that can be improved are as follows:
Trash
Lack of Food for Poverty
Environmental Problems
c. What can I do to help?
Now is where you ask yourself “what can I do to help?” As someone who grew up in a poverty-stricken family the cause I want to help out is both poverty and education. So what I do is I donate books and computers to underfunded libraries and public schools across the Philippines to create opportunities to help create opportunities for those who need it the most.
